If you are at a garage sale and do not have time to do an internet search ask the owner how old it is and where they bought it from. Ask them if they have the owners manual. Is a used treadmill a good buy? It depends. If the treadmill was only $150 to begin with and you’re being charged $200, then no it’s not a good buy. If the treadmill is fairly new, originally several thousand dollars, and a commercial treadmill, then the story might be different. If you are getting it for half or a third of the original price pay them and run with it! Refurbished treadmills can be a great buy. Yes they are used, but anything that was wrong with them has been fixed. They have been inspected, parts have been replaced, and these treadmills can be just as good as a new model. Contact the manufacturer directly and ask them where they sell their refurbished models.
One thing to be careful of is hot merchandise. If the treadmill seams too cheap it might be stolen. Remember the old saying about a deal too good to be true! If the seller seems to have vague answers and can’t really tell you about the features, that’s a red flag.
