The Underrated Benefits of Running – A NordicTrack Review

Most people either love running or they hate running. Some fall in love with running and some fall out of love. It is an intense workout which can be painful, exhausting and strenuous. So why is it that people that are do not necessary love running, continue to run as one of their main cardio exercises. The most common answer to that is weight loss. Most individuals who become runners, start running in order to lose weight. Running is one of the top activities to burn fat. The reason being is that running exerts a large amount of energy which means you burn more calories and your body will shed excess weight in the form of fat. Though most people start to run in order to lose weight, there are many other benefits from running that keep people stuck on this exercise.

Running can prevent bone and muscle loss. Those who run regularly are less likely to have muscle and bone loss than people who do not run. Muscles and bones grow stronger based on the demands you put on them. Living a sedentary lifestyle allows your bones and muscles to get weaker making an individual more susceptible to osteoporosis. By pushing yourself when you run, your muscles and bones will keep up with you, and maintain their resilience. Running has also been proved to promote the human growth hormone which can slow down the aging process.

Running also benefits cardiovascular health. Running can lower blood pressure and allow arteries to maintain their elasticity. It maintains elasticity because as you run, your arteries expand and contract three times more than usual. Your potential for a heart attack or stroke can be greatly minimized by running. Running can also improve your overall health as it can raise your good cholesterol (HDL) and reduce the chance of blood clots. Running also encourages the unused portion of your lungs to be used and improves your immune system.

Known as the “runner’s high”, running can also improve your mood. Running releases endorphins which can cause an overall feeling of happiness. It has been used to treat depression and addictions. Running also alleviates stress and tension. From experience of being a runner, running can allow you to escape your busy and hectic world, and focus on the task at hand. Running can act as a type of meditation for some individuals and allows the tension in your mind and body to float away.

The best thing about running is that you can do it anywhere or anytime, outdoors or indoors. Many runners enjoy running in the outdoors; however, for runners who live in areas which do not have mild, dry climate all year round, they choose to run on treadmills. Treadmills are available at gyms or can be purchased to be used in your own home. I am an avid runner but live in Western Canada where most of the winter is made up of rain. I run outdoors but also have purchased a treadmill from one of the best quality treadmills makers called NordicTrack. NordicTrack equipment is available in retail fitness equipment stores but can also be found online with the best prices at NordicTrack.com.
