table tennis: two-hand backhand!
Matt Seeberger’s performance, making the finals of the 2009 Sacramento Hardbat Fest, was remarkable in that not only was it his first tournament ever, it was the first time he had ever even been to a table tennis club! A completely self-taught basement player, he was undefeated in the preliminary rounds, beating two players rated over 2000. He is seen here losing a close match in the final against Scott Gordon. Matt is not only the strongest true “basement” player I’ve ever met, but he also has the best two-handed backhand I’ve ever seen in table tennis. His style is utterly unique and very fun to watch.
A final note, Matt is using a Don Varian Hock teardrop-shaped paddle, which he liked because he said it helped his backhand grip!
