Ping pong is enjoying a surge in popularity and professional tennis table player Tahl Leibovitz is here to help you jump on the bandwagon. In this video, he’ll teach you how to do a backhand drop shot.
My name is Tahl Leibovitz and I’m here at SPiN, New York. I am a professional table tennis player who has been competing internationally since 1995. I am here today to speak to you about the intermediate and beginner aspects of the Olympic sport of table tennis. Right now I’m going to demonstrate the backhand drop shot. It’s really important in the sport of table tennis, uh to be able to sometimes play passive, and not only aggressive. What this means is that you have to sort of slow your body down, and a lot of times you have your opponent, they put a high ball because they are in a little bit of trouble and no matter how hard you smash the ball, they keep returning it. So with the drop shot, what we do is we try to hit a little bit of the side of the ball and we just touch it. So we have a law with the drop shot, we just touch the ball, just like that. And we have a high ball, so we sorta just touch it to drop it. Like that, that’s a good drop shot. Now the second is a drop shot against underspin. You have a lot of players that are defensive and they push the ball. And what you need to do with that is you need to really just touch the ball, go underneath, and just touch the ball with the backhand drop shot. That’s a good drop shot. A couple more. See I’m just sorta really just touching the ball. It takes a little feeling on the back hand but its very important to drop the ball. Very low and over the net, so that’s the back hand drop shot.
